Colorado schools receive $5 million for vape-use reduction, mental health resources

Written by

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -The Colorado Department of Law awarded over five million dollars in grant funding to school districts across the state, including Roaring Fork School District in Garfield County.

Roaring Fork School District received $700,000 that will be used in a partnership with Aspen Hope Center and Stepping Stones to increase resources for youth mental health and reduce risks of vape usage.

The funds come from Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser’s settlement with e-cigarette manufacturer Juul Labs. The lawsuit claimed Juul targeted marketing to youth and was misleading about the health risks of vaping.

Other school districts that will receive funding include Clear Creek School District, Los Animas School District and South Routt School District among others.
