Written by

TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) – The Army Criminal Investigation Division has issued a warning to Fort Huachuca and broader Army communities about the risks associated with kratom.

Kratom, a tropical tree from Southeast Asia and Africa, is often marketed as an herbal supplement. Its dried leaves can be ingested in pills, capsules, powders, and drinks.

The Army emphasizes that using kratom can lead to severe military consequences. “Use of Kratom is punishable by the Uniform Code of Military Justice and can result in the loss of all pay and allowances,” the division said.

Consequences also include up to two years of confinement and a dishonorable discharge. The Army is urging individuals with information about kratom use or distribution within the community to report it.

People with credible information concerning the illicit use or distribution of Kratom within the Army community are encouraged to contact Army CID at www.cid.army.mil/tips.
