BROOKLAND, Ark. (KAIT/Gray News) – A mom in Arkansas is getting jail time for giving her children marijuana edibles and vape pens.
Deanna Sue Woods, 36, was sentenced Wednesday to 120 days in jail – with 60 days of jail time credit – and 60 months of supervised probation.
She was also ordered to pay all court costs and fees.
She pleaded guilty Wednesday to one count of introduction of a controlled substance into the body of another person and one count of first-degree child endangerment.
Brookland police arrested Woods in January on suspicion of giving marijuana/THC edibles to three of her four children, ranging in age from 6 to 15.
According to the affidavit, Woods also allowed her 6-year-old and 10-year-old children to smoke her vape pen.
She reportedly told detectives that she did it to “deter” the children from smoking marijuana.
Detective Dustin Norwood with the Brookland Police Department said Woods, who has a valid medical marijuana card, also smoked marijuana while breastfeeding her 1-year-old baby.
Norwood said Woods admitted to giving marijuana/THC and/or smoking marijuana around the four children 12 times in the last year.
According to the plea agreement, she is to have no contact with her children unless it complies with the Department of Human Services’ conditions and at the discretion of the guardian.
Woods must also complete parenting classes, a substance abuse assessment and a rehabilitation program.
