Vaping rates among city teens remain consistently high, and have even worsened among Black students, despite years of anti-smoking efforts, new data from the city Health Department shows.
Public high school students are three times more likely to use electronic cigarettes, or vapes, than smoke traditional cigarettes, according to the data released on Monday. The proportions are even higher among young adults ages 18 to 24, who are seven times more likely to vape than smoke. Overall, 14% of public high school students use vapes compared to 4% who smoke; among young adults outside high school, 15% vape versus just 2% who smoke.
